Il existait une coopérative ouvrière « La Paix » à Roubaix. S’agit-il de celle là ? C’est vraisemblable si l’on en croit le tampon figurant sur ce carton.
Fondée en 1885, elle a été la première en date des coopératives socialistes dans le nord de la France .
La première année elle ne faisait que le charbon. L’année suivante elle entreprit la boulangerie. Le succès fut tel qu’en 1887 elle inaugura de nouveaux locaux et en 1891, elle se fit construire un grand immeuble. Il y avait alors 1000 sociétaires qui seront 2000 en 1893 et 5000 en 1898.
